How to find "your" product

Below we listed a couple of very frequent inquiries and our suggestions for best suited products.

Our serviceteam welcomes your questions and guides you to find the optimal choice.

UV handheld radiometer/dosimeter

In your company or research institute you work with UV radiation which you want to precisely measure at different places or even on the way. In most cases our product UVLOG (EUR 1.600.-) is used. In many processes like lacquer and glue hardening or UV purification the UVLOG is used to control the UV radiation. Other applications are material sciences for evaluating the influence of UV radiation to plastics and colors, employment protection and UV detection in areas with UV sensitive objects (food, paintings, arts). If you do scientific experiments to explore the influence of UV radiation on skin, eyes, tissue or cell cultures you may need and love the UVLOG to ensure that your UV experiments run reproducible.

The UVLOG is a rugged handheld radiometer and dosimeter with included data storage, temperature sensor, USB connector and data analysis software. The UVLOG will be delivered with a customized and calibrated probe. If the device is used for control of UV hardening or drying processes in automatic conveying systems, the sensor can be directly flanged on the handheld and forms a compact unit which can be transported on the conveyor.

UV disinfection of water or air - measurement and control

You produce or run systems where germs and bacteria are killed with UV radiation and you want to control the quality of your process continiously? For the sensor probe the UV_DVGW (EUR 309,-) or the UV_Air_C (EUR 220,-) is applied. If you like to immerge the probe into water or bevarages please select the 10bar water proof and food safe probe UV_Water_C (EUR 320,-). For total submersion please use UV_Water_C...submerge (380,-). Our probes can be equipped with different signal outputs. You can chose between 0...5V, 4...20mA or digital output (USB, CAN-Bus). If the UVC radiation has to be measured at different places, the UVLOG (see above) can be used. For that application we equip the UVLOG with a radiation hard UVC detector.
If you need a separate UV controller, we can offer our compact controller module RADIKON (EUR 290,-). The RADIKON contains functions like potential free control of vessels or alarms, adjustable warmup delay and visualization of the radiation via a multi-color-LED.
If a dosimeter function, computer connection and display is needed, you may use a controller from our Sensor Monitor family (starting from EUR 390,-). These modules are optimal for disinfection systems in the development phase, as they are very versatile.

UV hardening of lacquers and glues - measurement and control

You produce or run systems for UV hardening of lacquers and glues and need a permanent control of the UV intensity inside the system. For the UV sensor probe please apply UV-Air_ABC (EUR 195.-). The probe can be equipped with 0...5V, 4....20mA, USB or CAN-Bus output. If the UV radiation has to be measured at different places, the UVLOG (see above) can be used. For that application we equip the UVLOG with a radiation hard UV detectors and optical reducers.

If you need a separate UV controller, we can offer our compact controller module RADIKON (EUR 290,-). The RADIKON contains functions like potential free control of vessels or alarms, adjustable warmup delay and visualization of the radiation via a multi-color-LED.
If a dosimeter function, computer connection and display is needed, please use a controller from our Sensor Monitor family (starting from EUR 390,-). These modules are optimal for systems in the development phase, as they are very versatile.

If you need a mobile device, which should be transported in automatic conveying systems, please apply our handheld datalogger dosimeter UVLOG. The sensor can be directly flanged on the handheld and forms a compact unit.

Sun UV radiation (erythemal radiation) - measurement conform with standard CIE1987

The necessity of precise measurements of sun UV radiation is given in very different applications. In the materials sciences aging processes of plastics and colours are analyzed, for the safety of exponates in museums the exposure to UV has to be evaluated, in the medical research consequences for eyes and skin are tested and in the biological resarch e.g. the UV induced vitamin synthesis is studied. As a reliable measurement device the UVLOG is approved in these applications. For measurement of the erythema causing sun radiation a special detector according to the international standard CIE1987 presented by McKinlay & Diffey is integrated.

For longer field tests at probands (people or animals) the EryLogger (EUR 800.-) is applied. This compact module can be attached to clothes and saves the UV intensity. The internal memory is able to save 3.000.000 values. These can be read and analyzed with the computer. Besides a second UV intensity channel, temperature, pressure and relative humidity can be logged.

Manufacturer of precise instruments for environmental data recording apply a sensor from our ERYCA family. These detectors almost exactly match the erythema action curve. Please find the specs here. The customer can chose between the ERYCA (EUR 83.-) and the TOCON_ERYCA (EUR 135.-). The latter latter works with included pre-amp for perfect reliability in cases of low radiation or high moisture. It outputs approx. 100mV/UVI.

Scientific Experiments

If you plan a scientific experiment, where UV radiation is used to affect processes, mostly our probe from the UV-Air (EUR 195.-) series is used. As a controlling and monitoring module please use our versatile Sensor Monitor (EUR 390.-). This device displays the actual intensity or dose. When reaching the desired dose, it can turn off your lamps or provide an alarm. The Sensor Monitor connect (EUR 490.-) is connectable to your PC.

Economic and easy ways to measure UV radiation

Here we recommend silicon carbide (SiC) based UV photodiodes e.g. SG01S (EUR 25.-). SiC based photodiodes are at the moment the most capable semiconductor UV detectors on the market. The features are a very low dark current of 1 fA and a very fast measurement time (less than 7 ns). The visible blindness is better than 105. Regarding the radiation hardness, SiC components are on top of the technical feasibility.

UV photodiodes typically provide a current of a few nanoamperes. Therefore a picoamperemeter (e.g. Keithley 617) is needed for the signal analysis of the SG01S. If you do not have such a measurement instrument please apply our amplifier Multiboard (EUR 99.-). The module transforms the current generated by the photodiode into a voltage of 0...3V, which can be analyzed with a multimeter.

An alternative is a UV photodiode from our series TOCON (starts at EUR 120.-). These SiC based UV photodiodes have an integrated amplifier which transforms the UV signal into a 0...2.5V signal inside the photodiode. This output can be read out by your PC measurement card or a standard multimeter.

UV photodiodes

For applications in industry and science SiC based UV photodiodes are mainly used.

As competing products based on titanium dioxide (TiO2) or aluminium gallium nitride (AlGaN) are much more economic at similar spectral behavior and for some applications these low cost devices could be an interesting alternative. In cases where no high visible blindness or low dark currents are necessary, lower priced TiO2 or AlGaN based UV photodiode can be applied.

sglux provides a wide range of all common photodiodes based on the mentioned semiconductor concepts. Our price range is between EUR 8,04 and EUR 442.- for one photodiode. Our service team is pleased to guide you to your optimal choice and assists you to get your customized photodiode.
